Please take note, THIS IS CONDITIONING!!!!!
It’s so easy to forget about the upper body when we are conditioning. When we thinking conditioning, we think running and biking but we have to remember that the upper body needs conditioning as well!
If you condition your legs, your arms don’t magically gain endurance as well! You get the results in the muscles that you train.
In all sports, you need your arms and upper body in good shape as well.
This exercise is what I call “Tempo Push-ups.” WHAT THIS DOES IS IT INCREASES YOUR MUSCLE’S ABILITY TO USE OXYGEN BY INCREASING THE SIZE OF YOUR SLOW TWITCH FIBERS.
For those of you who think that your sport only needs fast twitch fibers, THINK AGAIN.
When you use your explosive muscles, they create a substance that ultimately leads to fatigue. In order to get rid of this substance, your slow system (aerobic) is what is in charge of this removal.
YOU NEED BOTH!!!
To do this exercise, you should be going two seconds on the way down and two seconds on the way up without stopping. –
You can do this “Tempo Method” with almost any exercise. Squats, Rows, Chin-ups etc.
Credit for this method goes to Joel Jamieson and his book “Ultimate MMA Conditioning.” It’s a must read for anyone that works out.
